WHAT IS COMPASSION DOING?

Compassion is committed to ensuring that each Compassion assisted child affected by the crisis receives assistance.

In the hardest hit areas, such as Bangladesh, Haiti and Ethiopia, Compassion is already providing immediate relief and ensuring that Compassion centres can operate normally by offering the same level of nutritional support. Those in rural areas are being provided with seeds and agricultural tools, allowing them to grow basic foods and in some cases earn extra money.

STAGE II

Compassion is currently transitioning from providing short-term emergency food relief to the second phase of the plan to help improve long term household food security for Compassion assisted children and their families.

This phase includes a more targeted approach to provide supplemental and therapeutic nutritional assistance to children who are moderately to severely malnourished and/or living in high-risk areas where there is inadequate access to sufficient nutritional food to sustain healthy growth and development.

In addition to addressing the pressing issue of malnutrition in Compassion assisted children, Compassion is looking at long-term ministry models to increase resiliency and better equip families of Compassion sponsored children and church partners for sustainable household livelihood through mobilisation, drawing upon local resources, networking and knowledge sharing.

Matthew 14:13-21

When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said,

"This is a remote place, and it's already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food." Jesus replied, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat." "We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish," they answered. "Bring them here to me," he said.

And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.
